Brooklyn 9-11 Memorial Monument
(finalist)

56'
long x 8' aluminum screen
The
proposed memorial would be an 8 by 56 foot decorative aluminum screen
containing plaques of the names of all 283 Brooklyn victims of the
September 11th World Trade Center attack. It would be a great monument
to reflect the enormity and historical importance of the lives and
property lost. It would be a living testament for generations to come.
Set in the magnificent New York harbor against the downtown Manhattan
skyline the monument would invoke distinct feelings of loss, beauty,
and hope. The memorial’s size and the sheer number of victim's names
would convey the breadth and impact of the attack. The decorative
screen would suggest the World Trade Center's design and materials.
Downtown Manhattan would clearly be visible through the reflective
filigree pattern. Viewers’ focal points would shift back and forth
between the name plaques and the downtown skyline. The monument would
be a powerful destination to mourn and pay tribute.
